About ICG

Cooperation that connects the world

Introduction

The International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG), established in 2005 under the United Nations framework, facilitates voluntary cooperation on civil satellite-based positioning, navigation, timing, and value-added services. The ICG contributes to the sustainable development of the world.

International Cooperation

ICG

The International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems was established in 2005 under the umbrella of the United Nations. It promotes voluntary cooperation on civil satellite-based positioning, navigation, timing and value-added services.

The ICG encourages coordination among GNSS, regional navigation systems and augmentation providers to improve compatibility, interoperability and transparency. It also supports the adoption and integration of these services, particularly in developing countries.

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs promotes international cooperation in the peaceful use and exploration of outer space. It supports United Nations Member States in accessing and applying the benefits of space science and technology.

UNOOSA also assists countries in strengthening their legal, regulatory and technical capacities and in using space-based applications to support sustainable development.

Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) is India’s independent regional satellite navigation system. It is designed to provide positioning and timing services across India and a region extending approximately 1,500 kilometres beyond the Indian landmass.
